I will however need your help. As you may have noticed, the sound files have disappeared because they were linked to my university account (I made this site mainly when as a university). Therefore if any of you out there in cyberspace have saved the sound files from this website to your computer PLEASE send them in to me at email@derren-brown.co.uk and I'll be very very grateful! (I did have a back up but unfortunately my computer blew up that a year ago losing all files, so I have to start from scratch again -- yes that will teach me a lesson!) Oh yes - one last thing if any of you have any suggestions at all for how to improve the site, I would absolutely love to hear the. Derren has, as expected, received some complaints over the 'Arcade Game' item, amongst the overwhelmingly positive response it provoked. Working in the area he does with the expertise and intelligence he has, Derren is well aware of the dangers and issues which have been brought up. As ever, he does keep the details of his precise methods to himself, but if he had felt the guy was going to be in any danger he would not have persevered. He knew exactly what he was doing, controlled every moment, and despite appearances, there isn't a reckless bone in his body when it comes to this sort of thing.
While this is a necessarily brief and generic response and therefore may not be very satisfying, please at least be rest assured that Derren knows what he is doing every step of the way in these kinds of scenarios. The drama of these things is played up on screen, but behind the scenes Derren takes a huge amount of care.
I hope this goes some small way to alleviating your concerns.

Good luck with the rest of the tour!

There is a new ~scary~ fan-art pic from Amanda. Sorry for it not being posted sooner Amanda!
A new pic from Steven when he met Derren at Colne in April. Look at how MrB cheekily draws on Steven's face!
There are also a few old scans which Sang collected a while back which I've posted gallery 6 and gallery 7, and a few other pics I've been waiting to post for a while.
There is also a new (relatively speaking) article from the guardian newspaper online. Thanks to monkeymagic in the official forum for that.
Skunc has also sent in an article from the Sunday Times- thanks Skunc, I need more people like you!!
Derren is also looking for a place in London, mentioned in an article
on thisislondon.com:
"Television mind-reader Derren Brown is
joining the star trek to Marylebone. "He's looking for a three-bedroom
flat with good entertaining space," says Kay & Co. His budget?
"North of £500,000." Croydon-born Brown, winner of a Silver
Rose award at the 2003 Montreux TV Festival, calls himself "an expert
in psychological magic". Next month he will play Russian Roulette
"live" on TV. The Marylebone set includes Madonna, Noel Gallagher
and Viscount Linley."
In July, I had the pleasure of attending Marc's persuasion-skills seminar. For all those wondering, the pictures from that are being processed as I type this, and should be on the site very soon!

Derren's dvd will be released on 6th of October, RRP: £19.99.
|
The cheapest place I have found to buy it online is play.com which is *currently* selling the dvd at £14.99. (Will M was the first to spot this and email in!)
If you want to have a little play with "the psychic ball", then click here and have a look. Thanks to Charlotte P for that!
Well, that's it for now, ttfn!

Lets get straight into it...
Something to look out for all this week: BBC
Radio 4, Monday 21 - Friday 29 July, 3.45pm: Pants on Fire , a
program about lying, which will feature Mr B...
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Joel who has been kind enough to give me more webspace for this site. This means we can have more images (if I can find them), but more importantly more sounds! Thanks Joel!!!
If you have been watching Ria's site , then you will have probably seen she has beaten me to the last few updates!! For this I only apologise and of course, praise Ria for her dedication!!
Lil rach's site has changed addresses to http://derrenbrown.distanthost.com/ and (more importantly) has some great sound links, so check them out there!!
A new site I found: If you want to, you can sign yourself up as a "fan of Derren" here.
As u will already know, the old "Yahoo groups forum" died a while back to give birth to the official forum on Derren's official site. Here is a post by Blue Chip on the status of all the Yahoo groups which started after the old one died:
There are now FIVE groups that have replaced it. All except the first one are Yahoo Groups.
derrenbrown.co.uk - Official chat site. Mostly fan chat, technical details not allowed.
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/Derren-Brown - Moderated (by Blue Chip) chat about all technical details of DBs work. No fan chat, adverts, insulting posts etc.
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/PRSM - Chat about NLP & Hypnosis techniques used by DB and many many others.
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/Cotech - Chat about the modelling side of NLP. This is where all the most in depth details can be found on "people-watching" - presented for the beginner by our hailed guru yrreT.
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/derren-brown-unmoderated - This group (established by Sarah Giovanni, one of "nxnzerx"'s many aliases) is still relatively new, so it is a little difficult to ascertain what direction the group will take just yet.
Russian Roulette, the countdown to the date is on: October 5, Channel 4...
I promised myself this site wouldn't take over my life (hence the time since my last update!!), so I will keep it short today, but before I go, skunc has sent me an article of Derren from the Sunday times, thanks skunc! You can also find it in gallery 6 now...
I've more to update on, but that will have to wait until another day!
Until next time Derren fans,
Si
| 23 June 2003 |
Well, the groups are now officially divided. If you want to talk about how derren does his tricks, then go to the unofficial forum on yahoo groups, or if you are simply a true fan and simply want to express your admiration for him, then visit his official forum on his official site!
There are some new pics / scans in galleries 5 and 6. Most scans I've had for a while and not posted, but I believe they mostly come from Sang on Yahoo Groups! Thanks Sang, u'r a star!
There are also some more articles: Derren Brown interview by Ben Sloan - thanks Sang for that, and "Daily Telegraph Article by Simon Singh" - thanks Andy for that!
Frank Gavin has made a rather cool flash clip of Derren. Click here to have a look. You can visit to the site later if it is unavailable.
Thanks for visiting and if you have any more scans, sounds or articles of Derren you want posting, please email me!
Be good!

Firstly, Derren's tour will be hitting its final mark in London in 4 days! I hope you have all got your tickets!
Derren
Brown Yahoo Groups has now been moved to Derren's
official site - a move discussed by Lauren (group owner) and Derren
himself after Derren's show in Birmingham!!
No doubt by now you have all seen the news from the official page, but
to recap:
"Mind Control has just won the 2003 Montreux
Silver Rose award for Best Variety Programme. This is the European Baftas.
Derren told us, "Hahahaha. Soon I will control you all, you fools!"
He then mumbled something about our weapons being no match for his silver
rose and walked into a wall."
If you look, you can find an entry from Derren in my guestbook - thank you Derren!
"Idiotica: Search for jobs in the Beak Street area, with Derren Brown" a small article where you can search for jobs with Mr B! ;)
New Derren fan-sites are starting up faster than you can say "ok,
look at me"...
http://www.derren-brown.co.uk
http://derrenbrown.koolhost.com
- a site by little' Rach in Liverpool!
An article
mentioning the upcoming "Russian roulette" stunt has been added
to the archive. Thanks to jamesdavidson
from (the old) Yahoo Groups for that one. If I remember correctly, james
is a friend of Derren!
Also, a clippet from the Metro
Newspaper was kindly posted by hinkypunk2003 in the old Yahoo Groups
and can be found in the archive as well.
THE KEY MONTH to remember is October 2003:
Derren's new dvd comes out! and two specials will be broadcast on Channel
4 as part of a Magic Month season. source
Well, I'm sure that will keep you busy until the next update, but before I go, I think this site needs a little something extra. Do you have any ideas on what you would like to see added to this site? Please email me any suggestions! Thanks!
Until next time,
Si

Ok, big news - if you don't know already, Derren is doing ONE LAST PERFORMANCE at the Palace Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, London. This is the only venue which (at the time of writing) isn't totally sold out - so if you haven't had a chance to see Derren on his tour yet, BOOK NOW! Tickets are available from: 020 7494 5554. Thanks to Derren's manager who specifically emailed me with those details.
I have updated the links page with a load
of new Derren fansites (grr, competition!!) and I have updated the article
page which a few new articles, found by people on Derren Brown Yahoo!
Groups. Thanks *~*alex*~*, Sang and Leanne!!!
Nicola from Yahoo Groups also found that there's a short article on page11 of the Radio Times (3-9 may) which talks about DB's art.
Hopefully some of you caught Derren on "This Morning" ITV 11.35am 13 may 2003 (yesterday) where he did a trick where Fern drew a picture of a flower whilst Philip transmitted it to her, then Derren correctly worked out Philip's childhood memory was when his hamster died. Nice to see Derren is keeping his TV appearances going!!
Weird Derren fans!
Whilst looking at a recent article, (I think it was the magicweek interview)
I just noted an interesting quote: "Michael
my manager has had two people turn up on his doorstep in tears, in a week,
saying they'd had spells put on them, and they needed the spells lifting."
Bizarre Derren fans, very very bizzare!
What is Derren planning for the future?
"2 new TV specials in October, the Russian Roulette special and another
special which will be mainly live as well". The Russian roulette
stunt will basically involve Derren and "someone he can read"
loading a live gun for him. The contestant will put a bullet in the gun
and Derren will have to work out -reading the contestant's signals-
where it is. Due to gun laws in this country, Derren is not going to be
attempting this in the UK. My guess would be the USA. And why not!
As for me meeting Derren: -
I went to see Derren's tour at the Alex theatre in Birmingham - which
was a huge success and (in my opinion) especially the second part - don't
worry, no details about the 2nd half will be given away by me! If you
are still waiting to see Derren, then take a £1 coin - I will tell
you that he will be asking everyone to do "that" trick. See
how well you do!!!
After the show, I waited backstage with other mad Derren fans to get
his autograph. One person asked "Derren,
you know the trick you did at the dog racing track ... was that all real
or was any of it set up?", Derren replied, "it
was all real - the woman at the cash desk did [obviously] notice
the camera crew behind me [etc.], but yes, none of it was set-up".
Derren eventually got to me and I almost froze as I asked him whether
he had seen this site or not! We exchanged pleasantries and he very kindly
signed my programme! He is amazingly down to earth and more than willing
to meet all his fans out there, so say hi if you see him!!!
Derren, thanks for that, it was amazing to meet you in person!
Those of you in Harrow, Croydon, Brecon, St Albans, Crawley, Leeds, Fareham, Dartford, Derren will be coming your way soon!!! (don't forget London as well!!)
Bye for now!
Si
P.S. Almost forgot - ITS RIA'S BIRTHDAY, ON 24 May - she will be 18! Say Happy Birthday by emailing her! (find her email at her site; here)

Derren has been mentioned in an article about television:
"Derren Brown is great. He performs like
a magician but his real skill is as a truly amazing reader of body language,
with the ability to plant ideas in people's heads without their realising
it. A few weeks ago, he persuaded a medical student to pass a large surgical
needle through the flesh of his hand. There was no bleeding or pain. All
his stunts are this good. You should watch him."
You can find the source here.
Marc's site has been added to the links page. It is a site on influence / persuasion. I have even attended a course run by him! See if you can spot the influencing techniques he is using in his site text/design.
Derren has been featured in the "Big Issue" magazine. Some of you may have heard of it(!) Thanks very much to Aria for sending that scan in!
I am going on holiday for a couple of weeks (till 6th May), so understand if I don't reply in my emails. I know she will probably kill me for saying this, but if you have a query which just can't wait, they try Ria. If you are wondering what Ria looks like, you can now find a picture of her on the links page! ... Just wait till Ria finds out!! ... (only kidding! she sent me the pic - thanks Ria)
And on a final note, Ria and I are no longer dangerous obsessives"!! Derren's official site has finally seen the light and now refer to this site as a "delightful fansite" !!
See you soon,
Si

Derren's tour is going amazingly well, although the Peterborough gig has been cancelled because apparently the venue is not big enough for Derren's show, so the Key Theatre hasn't been able to book him. Sorry about that!
There are some small snaps of Derren on the International Magic website. Thanks to killerb on Yahoo Groups who spotted that.
I've had some great emails since the last update. An email from Julie
who saw Derren's show in Octagon Theatre in Yeovil and was even lucky
enough to be picked to go on stage:
"I saw Derren last night at the Octagon
Theatre in Yeovil where I live. The show was absolutely fantastic, out
of this world, I'm still buzzing! I've followed Derren on the t.v since
he first appeared so it was a real thrill to see him live. I was one of
the really lucky ones who got picked to join him on the stage. I was part
of the 2nd half and was chosen to use the Ouija board. I don't want to
give anything away and I still can't work out how he did it, but what
he did was amazing! I was always a little sceptical of what i'd seen him
do on t.v, but actually being a part of it made me realise just how genuine
this guys talent is. It's an experience i'll never forget. If you get
a chance to see him live, grab it with both hands, I promise you you're
in for a thrilling evening!! -Julie"
I have even been lucky enough to get an email from Michael Vine at Derren's
management:
"It is true that Jerry Sadowitz was the
guy who flagged up Derren however, the story is:
In the late nineties I flew up from London to see Jerry in Glasgow to
catch one of his performances, he was doing a week at a venue called The
Tunnel.
At the time I was managing Jerry.
For some two years my business partner, Andrew O'Connor, and I had been
looking for a mind reader that we could introduce to Channel Four. Jerry
was gracious enough to mention Derren and the rest is history. -Michael
Vine"
Thanks Michael - the biography page has been
updated!
See you next time!

First, a quick non-directly-Derren related update. For all those who are on Derren Brown Yahoo Groups and attended the NLP seminar on 1st Feb run by Mark, then click here for a few pics from the day.
Back to Mr B. Listen to interviews with Derren on BBC London's Breakfast Show (4th March 2003). Here for one and here for another.
And Ria has been lucky enough to meet Derren - read
her diary about the night she met Derren whilst attending the 2nd
night of Derren's tour. Definitely worth a read!
Si
| 26 March 2003 |
Magicweek interview has
been added to the archive. (Thanks to killerb on Yahoo groups for most
of these...) Derren has also been featured in an
article by Jerry Sadowitz:
"Jerry Sadowitz recommended Derren Brown
to a Channel 4 executive who was looking for a 'mentalist'."
Derren has also done a quick Q&A session for the guardian. Derren has also been booked for LoedStar's Social Activities and Gala Dinner on 17 June! And to finish off, the "Seabass 7" website have been witness to an amazing event involving Derren and a jaffa cake. Look for Derren's comment at the end...
See you later!

An obvious point, but still worth mentioning - if you don't know who Derren is or what he does, then watch his shows which are currently airing on Friday nights Channel 4 10.35pm.
We are all updating our DB sites! - Derren's official site has taken on a new look in the last few weeks. Derren's Channel 4 website has been updated with new stuff now. Have a look! There is talk of a new db fan site popping up... the site is likely to be found here or here. Also, you will also notice Derren has included a new caricature of himself on his official site. Very nice! (look on the derrenbrown.co.uk for a better quality version):

In other news, Derren has been mentioned in an online article for the
Independent:
"...And these messages get into the bloodstream
fast, as was brilliantly demonstrated by Channel 4 itself in a programme
from a series called Derren Brown: Mind Control. Brown took two
advertising men in a taxi to a venue and asked them to come up with a
billboard advert for a taxidermist business. A large stuffed bear and
small cat were placed in front of them, as was a sealed envelope containing
Brown's own prototype for a poster. The two gents were shocked to find
they came up with an almost identical poster.
Brown explained that he had taken
the two along roads where certain images either existed or had been placed
so as to be observed by them subliminally. For instance, a gang of children
wearing sweat shirts with a particular logo were made to cross a pedestrian
crossing in front of their car. The logo, a little altered, appeared in
the advert they made."
You can find the full article here.
hugo_hadlow from Yahoo Groups found that one.
My good friend Ria has found Derren mentioned in an article on science.net
which heavily features our well-known mind controller:
"Whats even more impressive about
Derren Brown is that being open about his methods and not making
any claims to posses supernatural powers does not diminish his performances.
Rather, his refined use of the signals that we all use unconsciously makes
his feats of mind control even more intriguing and infuriating - not least
because you know you should be able to work out how he does it."
Ria runs a fantastic Derren sister-site and it is well worth
joining her Derren newsletter list. Visit her site here.
After a chat with users in Yahoo Groups in February, mjm710 has been
kind enough to type out some of the chat. The transcript has been added
to the archive and can be found here.
Maybe not directly Derren related, but still an interesting link sent
in by Ashley Simmons: "a site created by James "The Amazing"
Randi, a retired illusionist who now runs a sceptic based site dedicated
to unmasking charlatan cold-readers, bogus faith-healers, useless perpetual
motion machines etc. Randi has offered a one million dollar prize to anyone
who can demonstrate any proof of any paranormal activities whatsoever.
No one has yet collected. It's a pretty interesting read and contains
several interesting pieces about all sorts of stuff including cold-reading
techniques and illusions etc." To visit the page, click here.
Derren has done a "60 second" interview for the Metro
newspaper. Thanks to skunc for finding that. Derren has also done
an interview for the Sunday
Telegraph. There is also an article on Derren in the "Evening
Standard" newspaper.
Derren has taken part in an interview
for the BBC which you can listen to using realplayer.
The users of Derren Brown Yahoo groups have been busy (especially Sang!). If you are a member, remember to look at the files section which includes clips from Derren on Radio 1, and some scans of Derren in different magazines.
Whilst surfing the net, I came across a page which has used the info my biography page! Fantastic! I'm just pleased that some of you find this site useful!
Well, as Ria reminds me, Derren started his tour in Stevenage on Friday. If you have seen the show or are going to see it, please send in what you thought of it!!
See you later and enjoy the site.
Si
| 3 March 2003 |
There is also news from Derren's site that:
"ALL COPIES OF "ABSOUTE MAGIC"
HAVE BEEN SOLD.
ALL PAL (UK AND EUROPEAN FORMAT) TAPES OF "THE DEVIL'S PICTUREBOOK"
HAVE BEEN SOLD.
Only a few NTSC tapes are left, and this is all you are now able to order.
I have no plans to release any more tapes or books to the magical fraternity - time does not permit, which also explains any delays people have experienced in receiving their orders."
I am currently in the process (progress is slow unfortunately) of redesigning the look of this site. If you have any ideas for the new design "Derren Brown Master Mentalist", please email!
Also, well done to a surfer who noticed I spelled "Psychology"
wrongly. This site has been here a year now, and I didn't notice...
